I. Archival collections of territorial Military Counterintelligence units
The date of origin of post-war military counterintelligence (VKR) is April 15, 1945, when the Main Directorate of Defense Intelligence was formed, later incorporated into the Main Headquarters of the Army. After the February 1948 coup, military counterintelligence began to fully work on the task set by the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia – to turn the army into a reliable power instrument. After several further reorganizations in the year 1953, military counterintelligence passed over into the competence of the Ministry of the Interior, where it was led under the cover name Directorate VI, and as of 1964, as Directorate III of the SNB. Among its main tasks belonged the revealing of activities of western secret services, cases of treason, terror, diversion, enemy propaganda, preparations for defection, protection of military secrets, etc. To carry out its tasks, it was authorized to use secret collaborators, arrest suspicious persons, run their investigations, etc.
