Meeting marks fifth anniversary of foundation of Institute for Study of Totalitarian Regimes and Security Services Archive

Prague, 1 February – A cordial gathering on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes and the Security Services Archive took place at the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes on the morning of Friday 1 February, 2013. The meeting was attended by the chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Mr. Milan Štěch, the chairman of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Prof. Jiří Drahoš, a number of ambassadors, representatives of partner institutions and many other guests.

Annual meeting of the Platform in Berlin, 8-9 November 2012

Berlin, 8 November 2012 - At the first annual Council of Members meeting in Berlin at the Hohenschönhausen Memorial, the Platform Members unanimously approved the membership applications of further eight new Members – institutions and organisations from 5 EU Member States, Moldova and Canada. This brings the total of Platform Members, one year after its establishment by 20 founding institutions and organisations, to 37.

  • Na Struze Research Centre: 16 July – 27 July
  • Kanice Research Centre: 6 August – 17 August

If necessary, we can dislose materials for you in opened locations.

Appointment of Director

Prague, 13 June, 2012 - The Institute Council yesterday discussed and accepted a proposal from Institute's Director, Daniel Herman, to appoint Zlatuše Kukánová as the Director of Security Services Archive.

Senator Miroslav Krejča from the Committee on EU Affairs and the representatives of the Fraunhofer Institut IPK visited the Institute and the Archive

Prague, 8 March 2012 – The main activity of the Fraunhofer Institute IPK (Fraunhofer-Institut für Produktionsanlagen und Konstruktionstechnik IPK, Berlin) is a virtual reconstruction of the documents. In this area the Fraunhofer Institute very intensively cooperates with BStU (Der Bundesbeuftragte für die Unterlagen des Staatssicherheitsdienstes der ehemaligen DDR), where they cooperate in the pilot project on reconstruction of 400 bags (about 15 milion fragments) of shredding Stasi materials. The German guests were also interested in the work of the Institute and the Archive and expressed interest in intense cooperation especially in the reconstruction of archival materials.

Act on the participants in anti-communist opposition and resistance

On November 17, 2011 entered into the force probably the last act of a fundamental nature, which directly addresses the problems of historical memory of our post-communist society. This is the Act No.262/2011 under the name Act on the participants in anti-communist opposition and resistance.

Website janpalach.cz (janpalach.eu), incurred as a result of the multimedia project of Charles University, were launched on 16 January 2012. Partners in this project are the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes, Security Services Archive and other institutions. Various commemorative events are held on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of Jan Palach’s act. In the main building of Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague you can see an exhibition „Jan Palach’69“.

Website present the life story of Jan Palach, a student of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague who set himself on fire in Wenceslas Square on 16 January 1969.
