Personnel files from the Ministry of Defense
This specific archive collection, which, similar to the other two archive collections in this section, is unprocessed, contains a collection of personnel (personal) files handed over to the Security Services Archive by units of the Ministry of Defense, especially the Administrative Archive of the Army of the Czech Republic. The collection is made up not only of personnel files, but also personal ID cards, for instance. During the year 2008, these materials were handed over in stages; the volume in its entirety currently amounts to 6200 files, or 95 running meters. It mainly concerns personnel files of professional soldiers – servicemen of Military Counterintelligence who functioned chiefly within units of the Czechoslovak People’s Army (army circles, corps, divisions, brigades, etc.) or the Ministry of National Defense, and to a lesser extent also of servicemen of the Intelligence Service of the General Staff of the Czechoslovak People’s Army. The Intelligence Service of the General Staff was the only intelligence service not organized under the Ministry of the Interior. It was governed instead by the chief of the General Staff of the Czechoslovak People’s Army. Its servicemen focused their activities on the area of assignment of armed forces in so-called capitalist countries, with an emphasis on places of possible outbreak of military conflict.
